A Case of Malignant Melanoma Developed from Upper Lip
Woo Joo-Hyun

Kim Dong-Young
Abstract
Reports on primary malignant melanoma arising from lip are extremely rare. Treatment for melanoma of the lip is wide surgical excision. Radiotherapy or chemotherapy could be also used, but the effectiveness is controversial. Because of the lack of data, the biological behavior of the disease still remains unpredictable and dismal. This case was a early stage case of malignant melanoma which was presented in the upper lip and the patient underwent wide resection and reconstruction. About 40 days after the operation, regional recurrence developed in the infraparotid lymph node which is the echelon lymph node of upper lip. He was subsequently treated with therapeutic neck dissection (level I, II, III, IV, V, superficial lobe of parotid and periparotid lymph node) and postoperative radiotherapy. We report the therapeutic experience of malignant melanoma with a review of the literatures.
